Li4 Process Simulation

The human mind excels at creativity and innovation but can struggle with complex processes involving many loops, scenarios, and variables. Digital tools, however, can handle these complexities, thus making them ideal for process analysis.

Li4 combines state-of-the-art software, hardware, and visualisation to deliver cutting-edge process simulation, offering benefits such as:

  • optimised risk and change management
  • powerful data-driven decision-making
  • predictive insights
  • complex systems visualisation

Li4 Simulator™ can build a time-domain discrete event digital models of processes, based on fundamental building blocks such as people, resources, and products. These are combined with logic, flows, and timings to replicate the actual real-world process.

The model built within the simulator is just as complex as the real-world process it is replicating, so it relies on accurate data for its creation. At the beginning of our engagement, we perform a thorough data analysis with you to ensure the appropriate data is available. We then build the model based on the fully detailed process map and without making avoidable simplifications.

Accurately creating a model of your process in Li4 Simulator™ is just the start of your Digital Transformation – once built, the model is used to improve your process in two main ways:

  • What-if Scenarios: You might already have an idea of how you want to change the process, grow your business or adapt to customer demand. We can simulate these and provide accurate conditions to avoid guesswork and provide data for decision-makers to make better-informed decisions.
  • Optimisation: The computer will never match your understanding of your business, so we present the range of preferred solutions and data to back them up, allowing you to make an informed decision.

The ultimate goal of the Li4 Simulation team is to create a Digital Twin of your newly optimised process. This adds constant – or even real-time – feedback of data from your process to the model. This could be implemented through a customer graphical user interface (GUI) for simple data inputs, excel imports, or could be connected to your in-house database. Li4 Digital Twins provide a model that can place the entire capability of simulation at your fingertips.

Project Examples:

  1. Identification of Bottlenecks: Rather than just looking at the steady-state, we stress-test your process to identify problems in transient scenarios before they occur in real life. For example, what would happen if a member of staff was ill, or if a machine went out of action? We can model the cascade of knock-on effects to all aspects of your organisation.
  2. Layout Optimisation: By creating the model in a 3D environment using your building layouts, travel distance and time are taken into account and presented as heatmaps and used to improve throughput and improve staff wellbeing.
  3. Planned Expansion: How would adding a new line impact your existing process and factory throughputs? Many things don’t scale linearly, and simulation will identify equipment bottlenecks, resource constraints, and provide data for strategy, purchasing, and HR decision-making.
  4. New Facility Design: We don’t make assumptions by simply extrapolating from the status quo, and model the new process in the same detail as if it was already operating. This gives more confidence in the generated data and considers all the details that make each application unique.
  5. Intelligent Scheduling: When you have a dynamic process with many possible configurations or with varying customer demand, planning and scheduling are difficult and prone to errors. We take the guesswork out of the decision-making by simulating all the options and presenting you with the optimum solution for your particular scenario, whether that be for lowest lead time, highest throughput, or any tailored metric.
